Road Trip! - Spring / Summer 2022
Our chariot awaits...."Goldie" our Prius
We left Miami at the end of May 2022 and made our way to Wisconsin to spend the summer with family.
Before leaving Florida we stopped in one of our favorite areas to visit friends & family. Ormond-by-the-Sea feels like a best-kept-secret to us, we've visited at least 3 times in the last few years. We love the "Sleepy Old Florida" vibe, the beach is peppered with beautiful red sand and seems to stretch for miles and miles with very few people. The Atlantic Ocean is colder in this part of Florida than in Miami and the waves crash a bit harder here. We adore the area, it has a great feel. We spent about 5 nights in a beachfront Airbnb in Ormond-by-the-Sea.
Our next stop was in Georgia, we stayed in Jonesboro, a suburb Southwest of Atlanta. While there, we visited the Porsche Experience Center. I love cars, I'm a big German car fan. We did a scheduled tour and had lunch at Restaurant 356 on site. Gorgeous facility, amazing cars and really good food. When we settle in one spot I'll get back into a "fun" car. 😄
Our next state to explore was Kentucky. First up was Bowling Green, we visited the Corvette Museum, Mammoth Cave, and Aviation Heritage Park. I can confidently recommend all 3 of those attractions.

After Bowling Green we headed for our next Airbnb in Kentucky. We stayed in Shelbyville which is between Louisville & Lexington. We wanted to have access to both cities and the multiple Bourbon Distilleries around the area. We love Bourbon! We barely scratched the surface though, there are so many distilleries. We visited Maker's Mark, Four Roses, Buffalo Trace, Bulleit and Woodford Reserve. It's hard to pick a favorite.
After a week or so in Kentucky we made our way up to Champaign/Urbana, Illinois. We got our fill of Deep Dish Pizza & Portillo's Italian Beef sandwiches while there. We'll never turn down Portillo's. We visited a great brewery called Riggs Beer Company while there. They have a neat property on the outskirts of town. There's a great selection of beer on tap (all brewed with local grains), live music and a great outdoor setting. We spent a couple nights in Champaign before completing our journey and staying with family in Wisconsin for the remainder of the summer into fall.
Family time is always nice. Grilling out, local events, cars shows, ice cream, hikes, walks, county fairs, fire works, a hot air balloon festival, tractor pulls, festivals, and gorgeous midwest summer weather. Oh yeah, and Friday Night Fish Fries! We enjoyed our time with family.
September brought frost and October brought snow to Wisconsin, so it was time for us Floridians to GO! Time for another road trip!
